"In mid December the second lockdown had been going on for more than a month. The weather had been featureless for weeks. The odd drizzle, a brief, misleading ray of sunshine touching the tops of trees. I had walked all the walks originating at our house ad nauseam, when i learned that both Berlin zoos were open to public. [...] When I booked the ticket online I realised what an obvious metaphor this all was: an animal confined in a small space, unable to interact with any of the other creatures behind the fence."

The following weeks during lockdown Christoph spent carving and drawing animals and zoo-/cityscapes in his studio.

"In late November last year, I received a text message from my friend Philipp Keel. “I’m seeing David Hockney in Los Angeles next week,” he said. “Do you want to come along?” Ignoring all the sensible reasons not to embark on a trip from Berlin halfway around the world, I went and booked a ticket straightaway."

The next 4 days Christoph spent walking the city, drawing, and hoping that the meeting would actually take place.

"A wordless book about the joy of reading magazines and newspapers."

All the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to Reporters Without Borders (RSF). The world is facing countless pressing issues. I don’t know how to solve them, but I’m convinced that in order to find out, we need a press that can ask the relevant questions, without fear of threats, persecution and violence. We need to protect reporters who take risks to shine light into the darkest corners of the world and to bring us the truth about sensitive subjects involving our health, our safety and our geopolitical environment. RSF is fighting for this since 1985.
